Your 12-day voyage aboard Damai 2 explores East Kalimantan, a remote route that sees very few liveaboards and offers a rare chance to see whale sharks and pygmy seahorses in one trip.
The journey begins in Tarakan where you settle in before we head south toward the Derawan Archipelago. Your first days focus on Samama for cryptic macro critters and Sangalaki for manta cleaning stations and reef plateaus. Moving to Talisayan, we visit traditional fishing bagans to swim with whale sharks feeding in the calm coastal waters.
Our exploration continues south to the remote outer walls and deep pinnacles of Muaras Reef. These current-swept frontiers remain off the map for most operators and offer excellent chances to encounter passing pelagics, thresher sharks, and giant marble rays.
The diving transitions to Maratua Atoll for high-energy channel action where you can hook into the current to witness massive schools of barracuda, trevally, and reef sharks.
We finish the expedition at Kakaban Island to dive dramatic vertical drop-offs before heading inland to swim among thousands of non-stinging golden and moon jellyfish in the island’s unique landlocked saltwater lake. After a final day cruising south along the coastal reefs, we arrive in Balikpapan where our team manages all airport transfers and logistics for your departure.
