The journey begins in Tarakan where you settle in before we head south toward the Derawan Archipelagos. Your first full day at Sangalaki focuses on manta cleaning stations and nightly turtle nesting. Moving to Talisayan, we visit traditional fishing bagans to find whale sharks. These giants gather here in a unique partnership with local fishermen.
Our exploration continues south to Birah Birahan and the remote Muaras region. These sites remain off the map for most operators. You will encounter thresher shark cleaning stations and large marble ray populations. The diving transition to Maratua brings high energy action in the channel. Expect massive schools of barracuda, trevally, and leopard sharks.
We finish with a focus on precision and wonder. Derawan provides world-class macro diving where our guides find blue-ringed octopus and flamboyant cuttlefish. Your final day features the stingless jellyfish lake of Kakaban and reef shark encounters before we return to Tarakan.
