Your 12-day voyage aboard Damai 1 explores the Alor Archipelago, a unique microenvironment fed by rich currents from both the Indian and Pacific oceans. This remote route delivers extreme marine diversity, balancing world-class macro muck diving with high-energy pelagic encounters and the chance to spot migrating blue and sperm whales in the deep island channels.
The journey begins in Kupang where you settle in before a deep-water crossing north. Your first days in the Pantar Straits and Rusa present dramatic rock formations smothered in pristine hard and soft corals. Here, deep cold-water currents attract massive schools of snappers, sweetlips, and passing sharks, while the muck sites of Beangabang Bay offer a premier night-diving playground for rare octopus, ghost pipefish, and Bobbitt worms.
Our exploration continues west toward the towering volcanoes of Lembata and the Solor islands. We visit the exposed reefs of Soangi and the current-swept slopes of Solor, a rare corridor for manta rays, giant groupers, and schooling pelagics like tuna and wahoo. Interspersed with deep wall dives, we explore the muck sanctuaries of Waiwawong to hunt for elusive Rhinopias, finger dragonets, and hairy frogfish under the shadow of active volcanic peaks like Komba.
We finish the expedition back in the heart of the Pantar Straits, diving the vibrant walls of Ternate and Pura where clouds of fusiliers mask the reef and mandarin fish emerge at dusk. After a dedicated macro day in Kalabahi Bay and final morning dives among the schooling surgeonfish and potential Mola Mola at Treweng, we make the return crossing to Kupang.
